I'm not sure what happened in the last few months but it seems that while the sky was falling and all hell was breaking loose in real world media there was a mini revolution going on in another form of Media: TV !
Somehow, I went to bed crying over Ferguson and woke up to a bunch of black leading ladies to celebrate: Olivia, Dr. Maggie Pierce, & Professor Annalise Keating -- even more interesting I somehow ended up with an Asian Henry on Selfie!
Now while that changes nothing about what's going on in the real world I've learnt Perception is sometimes More Powerful than Reality -- and having a few more African American characters playing professional women in leading roles puts a smile on my face even if they all came from the head of one woman. To put some extra icing on the cake they're all different shades and sizes and one even has natural hair...
Now when you take that and add on the fact that they replaced an old white professor in such an iconic role with John Cho- um, Wow. (And FYI I loved that old white man, so JC has a lot to live up to).
Even if America isn't progressing at the rate I'd like it to TV sure is this season. Thank You Shonda Rhimes, Thank You ABC Casting.
We'll be tuning in (on hulu that is!).
